What you track never leaves your device. The site only counts, anonymously, how many people use it and which features they use, so I know whether it is worth maintaining.
What you track stays on your device
Time Tracker has no account and no database of yours anywhere. Your activities, sessions, groups, categories, profiles and settings are stored in your browser’s own storage on this device. They are never uploaded, and they are not part of the usage stats below. The only way they leave the browser is a backup file that you export yourself.
Anonymous usage stats
The site and the app use Umami Cloud, a privacy-focused analytics service, to count:
- Page views: which page or app screen was opened (for example Summary or Settings), the page that linked here, and the browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and country.
- Feature use: named events such as “started tracking”, “exported a backup”, “changed the layout” or “picked a theme”, with fixed values only (for example layout: rows).
- A daily snapshot: once a day, rough counts of how the app is set up, as ranges (for example 4–6 activities, 1–3 profiles), the layout and theme mode, and whether it is installed as an app.
It never includes the names of your activities, groups, categories or profiles, your times or sessions, or anything you type. Umami sets no cookies, does not store your IP address (it is used only to look up the country, then discarded), and does not follow you across other websites. Visits are counted with an identifier made from a hash that changes regularly, so they cannot be linked to you.
Stats are not sent from the demo, from the offline single-file version or from a copy running on your own computer.
Your choice
You can turn the usage stats off, here or in the app under Settings → About. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, they start off and stay off unless you turn them on. Blocking the script with an ad blocker works too, and the app works exactly the same without it.
That said, please consider leaving them on. There is no personal data in them, and they are used for one thing only: maintaining free software. They are the only way to know anyone uses Time Tracker. If nobody does, it gets no more updates or support, and it will be retired.
Turning usage stats on or off needs JavaScript. Without it, no stats are sent.
Feedback
When you send feedback from the app, your message is stored so it can be read, together with the email address, if you give one, so you can get a reply, and, if you leave the box ticked, the app version and your browser. It goes to this site’s host, Cloudflare, and nowhere else. Nothing from your tracker is attached. It is used only to answer you and improve the app, kept only as long as needed for that, and deleted on request.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse, under its own privacy policy. No other services are involved.
Contact and changes
For questions or a deletion request, use Send feedback in the app. If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date.
